弊社は今回の事故を踏まえ、あらためて安全を最優先する企業風土を構築するため、5月末に策定いたしました「安全性向上計画」※を着実に推し進めているところであります。これからも、私たち社員一人ひとりが、お亡くなりになられた方のご無念、ご遺族の皆様やお怪我をされた皆様のお悲しみやお怒りのお気持ちを深く心に刻み、全てのお客様に安心してご利用いただける鉄道の再生に、全力で取り組んでまいります。

....... On April 25, 2005, a train of the Company caused a truly tragic accident of derailment, resulting in 106 fatalities and more than 500 injuries among the passengers. We pray for all the victims of the accident and would like to express our sincerest apology to their bereaved families. We also would like to express our sincerest apology to the injured passengers and wish them recover as soon as possible. We in all sincerity will exert our company-wide efforts to respond to those who suffered great trouble from the accident.
We will take our all-out efforts to build a corporate culture of placing first priority on safety, in carrying out “Safety Enhancement Plan” that we formulated and reported to the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation on May 31, 2005. Although we have just started our effort, I pledge to exercise leadership so that management and all employees always remember to place first priority on safety and sincerely undertake actions with the utmost energy.
From the first train on June 19, we resumed transportation service between Amagasaki and Takarazuka on the Fukuchiyama Line. Before resuming, we implemented full-scale preparations for securing safety, including installation of ATS-Ps and revision of timetable accompanied by crew training. Furthermore, as a railway operator, we promise to act incessantly on the basis of safety-first in the future.
We understand we have a long and tough way to go to restore the confidence. We, however, will never fade the memory of the accident and will continue our effort to regenerate safe railway that is trusted by all customers. Simultaneously, we would like to express our sincerest apology to the commuters and any other train users along the line for any inconvenience we have caused them for a prolonged period. We would appreciate it if you kindly understand our future effort.
